I think we forget that social media platforms are also search engines just like Google. This means that they use keywords to help people find what they are looking for on the platform. There are certain areas of your social media pages that are searchable, and you need to make sure you're taking advantage of that real estate!
Let's begin with Instagram. Instagram is also a search engine. If you're not being found on Instagram, check your profile to make sure you're doing these 4 things!
Use keywords in your bio. Your bio is one of the searchable areas of your profile so you should be using keywords there.
Write descriptive captions. Your captions are another area of your Instagram that is searchable. Be sure to write captions that are long enough and include those keywords you want to be found with.
Edit your alt text. You can create custom alternative text in Instagram when you upload a photo to create a clearer description of what your post is about. Alt text is the written text that appears in place of your image on a webpage if the image does not load. This text also lets screen reading tools describe images to visually impaired readers. And alt text allows search engines to better crawl and rank your website.
Put your hashtags in the caption of your post, not the first comment. There has been debate around this but the official Instagram creators page recently shared that in order for hashtags to be discovered from the search bar, they must be in the caption.
